Joe was born and raised in Lagrange, Georgia. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in Forestry. Joe worked as a land appraiser with the US Forest Service for 37 years. After retiring from both the US Forest Service and the US Army Reserves, Joe began work as a commercial appraiser. He helped mentor his two youngest sons, who have followed in his footsteps as General Appraisers. Joe also was a USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) Instructor for several years. Joe and his wife, Laverne, celebrated their 50th anniversary in September, 2011. They reside in the Haw Creek community of Asheville, NC. They have three children and five grandchildren.
The youngest of three boys, Mike grew up in Asheville, NC. He graduated from Western Carolina University with a BA in Criminal Justice. Mike began appraising in 2003, with his father, Joe, as his mentor. Mike is licensed as a General Appraiser, performing Commercial and Residential property appraisals, as well as Conservation Easements and Federal Land Acquisitions (Yellow Book). He resides in the Haw Creek community in Asheville, NC. Mike and his wife, Sara, enjoy the outdoors, including camping, hiking, and spending time with their rescue dogs.
